About Midwest Sundowners R/C Flying Club
Midwest Sundowners R/C Flying Club: Our Mission & History
The Midwest Sundowners R/C Flying Club has been a vibrant part of the Midwest model aviation scene for over 40 years, officially operating under AMA Charter #1333. Our mission is simple: to provide a safe, world-class flying environment and a welcoming community for enthusiasts of all radio-controlled aircraft disciplines.
A World-Class R/C Flying Field
Located conveniently near Northwest Indiana and the Chicagoland area, our field is our greatest asset. It is expertly maintained year-round and features:
Geo-textile Runway: A smooth, dedicated surface perfect for fixed-wing aircraft, from electric foamies to high-performance jets.
Amenities: Covered pavillion, ample parking, and pilot stations.
Safety: We strictly adhere to AMA safety guidelines to ensure a fun and secure experience for all members and guests.
More Than Just A Field: Our Community
We are a club built on mentorship and shared passion. Whether you are struggling to trim your first trainer or seeking advice on a complex scratch-build project, our members are here to help.
R/C Flight Instruction: We offer a formal flight training program with experienced instructors who can get new pilots confidently soloing their aircraft. This is included with membership!
Club Events: We host year-round events, including combat contests, seasonal fly-ins, and Swap Meets.
Veteran Pilots: Our club is home to some of the most knowledgeable and highly-skilled R/C pilots in the region.
